What is it?
An industry led National Product Stewardship Scheme creating a circular economy for surplus / leftover paint and packaging in the UK
- The aim is for surplus and leftover paint to be collected from Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) and possibly DIY retail premises, on a large scale across the UK, and then made available, firstly for reuse and remanufacture
- PaintCare will be financed by the paint manufacturers imposing a ‘levy’ on each litre of paint sold. The actual amount is still to be decided
- Community RePaint has been represented on a Task Force that has been meeting fortnightly for the last year to plan and steer the project. The Task Force consists of representatives from the main paint manufacturers.
- By making ‘reuse’ the first option, a robust model is being built where there will be support for developing social enterprises (like Community RePaint members) by helping to create jobs and volunteer opportunities.
