Read on to see how reclaimed paint, community creativity and a love of nature came together in a colourful mural project at RHS Wisley.

A vibrant new mural has sprung up in the Greener Skills Garden at RHS Wisley, celebrating biodiversity, creativity and community involvement. Created by artist Mirri Rowland (@drawntonature._), the artwork features some of her favourite wildlife, from butterflies and birds to snails, frogs and fungi, all nestled amongst vibrant greenery.

Visitors were invited to “leaf their mark” on the mural by painting their own leaf during two community painting sessions. This collaborative approach gave people the chance to contribute directly to a lasting piece of public art while connecting with the garden’s environmental message.

The mural featured repurposed paint collected from the artist’s local community in Croydon as well as preloved paint supplied by Community RePaint Camberwell, run by In-Use Re-Use. The mural reads ‘protect the Earth, rethink your waste:  Not only does the mural celebrate the natural environment through its design, but by giving surplus paint a second life, it also helps prevent the environmental impacts associated with paint waste.

Thank you to Mirri Rowland for helping support our paint reuse mission. This project is a fantastic example of how reused paint can bring communities together, reduce waste and create something truly special for everyone to enjoy.
