Our scheme in Southampton is managed by Southampton City and Region Action to Combat Hardship (SCRATCH). SCRATCH provides services which relieve the effects of hardship, disadvantage and poverty for individuals and families living in Southampton and the surrounding area. They collect part-full and full containers of paint from traders, retailers and manufacturers in the region. They are unable to accept or collect paint from individuals.
This scheme is one of a few schemes who provide paint for free to referred clients or to people with proof of means tested benefits. The work mostly with their existing clients but you can contact the scheme to check your eligibility. If you are not eligible for free paint they also have a shop where paint can be purchased at a low cost. They also request a small donation for the paint from community groups.
At their main premises, if you are eligible paint can be viewed and collected by appointment. For further information contact the scheme on 023 8077 3132.
Below are some of the comments we have received about this scheme:
“Thank you so much for the paint for Shirley. She has been very down and worried about the prospect of eviction if she does not get her home decorated. Your support has made a huge difference to her this week and has taken a big weight off her shoulders”.
“On behalf of all staff and residents at West View House, I would like to thank you for your generous donation of paint you gave us to paint the hostel. Your donation was very kind and we are very grateful to you”.
“Your staff were so helpful and resourceful and we are very impressed with how your scheme is run.”
