To create the new school mural, creative director Marianne Shillingford held a workshop with the students to design the feature and the decorating experts at Dulux went along to the school in Ragstone Road to help them paint it.
Paul Murgett, sustainability marketing manager at Dulux says: “We did some research and found that half of us in the UK are hoarding between four to twenty tins of unused paints from previous DIY jobs. Rather than let them gather dust, we created a campaign designed to help us all pass it on to those who need it. So far, we’ve seen schemes up and down the country benefit and we’re really proud to have been able to support our local community here in Slough too. “

The idea was first discovered during a pilot project in Leeds, called the Waste Wagon project, and now we celebrate our 25 year paint anniversay! The Waste Wagon project found that we tend to store large volumes of leftover, reusable paint in our sheds, garages and cupboards. As part of the project, this leftover paint was collected from householders, along with other DIY materials and hazardous items. At the end of the project, the paint was given to local charities and groups, which highlighted the demand for affordable paint amongst these organisations, as well as a need amongst individuals and families on low income. Now, after 25 years, our sponsor Dulux has celebrated with us. Watch the video below to see some of the recent projects we have worked with, and a snapshot of our scheme Community RePaint Bradford.
The amazing Fulfilled: Plastic free shop picked up a beautiful sea blue for their newly opened plastic free shop, from our scheme Re>build (Bury). A local artist finished off the ocean theme with a mural of detailed underwater sea creatures holding plastic objects, highlighting the importance of reuse and waste reduction for our oceans.

An artist called Hixxy collected paint from Community RePaint East London, meaning this leftover paint could brighten the walls of another space and add a tropical theme of bright colours and leafy additions.
