From Earthquakes to RePaint

How did you get into painting?

I first started painting as a child. I was even invited by my High School to paint a mural on the entrance hall. In my first home, I gave the boring internal doors an Art Nouveau twist. Then, following divorce, ran away to live in Italy and stayed seven years. I loved it there; paintings on the ceilings, the beautiful frescos, the colours. Sadly, my house there (formerly a castle) fell down in an earthquake so I returned to England with nothing but my kids and a few suitcases of clothes. Painting was to take up every spare moment I had, ever since!

What does life look like now?

I decided to rent a workshop space where I could go at weekends. It’s on a farm and when the sun shines it’s a tranquil place to sit in the doorway waiting for paint to dry with the birds singing and no internet, I love it.

I set up my business, Jane Wilde Designs with a website and even printed t-shirts!  I upcycle furniture destined for landfill and bring it back to life. Every single piece is unique, and each has its own quirks. I believe this only adds to their character.

We know you’re an avid user of our ReColour Paint, tell us more!

I first saw an article online about ReColour paint when researching sustainable products. I loved Recolour product so much I became a stockist, and then painted my living room with it, upcycled a dining table and chairs I bought from a charity shop…and I’m painting more and more pieces to sell.

Why I am a ReColour Stockist and advocate!

Since 2020, Lulu has been using ReColour chalk paint from our remanufacturing centre in Wirral for her projects and upcyling commissions and she’s not looked back! “I am so glad I found it Rebecca and her paints!” “It’s my go to paint, and having used a fair few more popular brands, that are sometimes twice as expensive, I always settle on ReColour” “It helps the planet. There is a lovely range of beautiful colours.”

So Lulu, what where your first impressions of using our ReColour chalk paint?

“It goes on like a dream, it really does.” “These paints make my job as a painter so much easier!! You know the warm and fuzzy feeling you get when you spread butter on bread and it’s EXACTLY the right consistency so it goes own without making the bread crumble ? That is how I feel when I use ReColour paints. They go on like a dream. They cover just right. Sure I’ll do another coat, but the satisfaction I feel from that first coat is just amazing.”

“When I opened my shop, it made sense to stock this paint as I am a big fan! And an advocate.”

So, now you’re a stockist, why should other people consider buying ReColour chalk paint?

“Well it is remanufactured for a start. Waste paint is converted to an eco friendly low VOC child friendly chalk paint.
* I support a small business when I buy from them. The exceptional service, personal attention, advice and just a general interest in what I am painting is unmatched. Rebecca is a great person to buy from. And I’m very happy to be a small part of her journey. And even happier she is a bigger part of mine.
* Value for money!!! A 750ml tin is £10. You heard! £10. Bigger more known brands can be about £25, or more for the same quantity. So even if you weren’t too sure about trying a newer not that well known brand, you are not breaking your bank!!!! And I promise you, once you try it, you will be addicted!”

Where can people find you?

“If you have any questions about this paint, or have an upcycle project you’ve not got round to and need advice, or want to see my furniture that has been painted in ReColour paints to see how they look and feel before you buy, pop into my shop at The Barras on Kent Street (type Lulu Makes Things in Google Maps and it will bring you to my shop!). I’m open every Sat-Sun 10.30am to 4pm”

Village Hall’s Week! – Go Green!

This year is all about encouraging Village Halls to ‘go green’ and reduce their carbon footprint and champion sustainability for generations to come.

We’re delighted to be able to help village halls ‘Go Green’ when they look to buy paint to redecorate their spaces.

By ‘RePainting’ their halls with reused or remanufactured paint rather than new, village halls can have a big impact. A purchase of a 2.5 litre can of paint saves 6.79 kg of Co2 and a 60 litre order saves 163kg of Co2! Opting for paint reuse significantly reduces waste by diverting paint from landfill and minimizing the need for new paint production. Additionally, utilizing reclaimed paint can be more cost-effective for village halls, offering budget-friendly alternatives compared to purchasing new paint supplies.

For Gedney Village Hall, choosing ReColour paint made a massive difference.

Gill Thomas writes “Our village hall was built in the 1970’s and although it now has central heating, the hall was looking tired and uncared for. Like many village halls we were struggling, especially after Covid with a reduction in the number of people using the hall.

We chose Community Repaint as it offered a variety of paints and colours within a reduced price range. We had a budget and because of the discounted prices we were able to not only paint our main hall, but also the bar area, kitchen and freshen up our toilets.

Our hall now looks bright, clean and loved. Lots of people have commented on how good the hall looks and there is now more people using our hall.

So thank you Community Repaint, we couldn’t have done it without you!”

If you are a village hall looking for a sustainable and affordable paint, we’re here to help!

Interactive Christmas Nativity Extravaganza!

volunteer painting with ReColour paint, scenery with desert and sky.

King’s Church Selby created an interactive nativity extravaganza, with hundreds of children from Selby, North Yorkshire, and the surrounding area coming to ‘walk through’ the nativity story in an unforgettable experience.

Professor pendulum take kids back in time in his time machine

This year, they had over 400 primary school children and teachers visit the event over 2 weeks with 36 performances! The children went on an adventure, time travelling in Professor Pendulum’s Time Machine. They went back 2000 years to find out about the first Christmas! Each walk-through scene had the children meet the characters and interact with them and collect evidence to discover more about the first Christmas.

To create this interactive and immersive experience they used lighting, sound and paint…and lots of it. The church ordered over 100 litres of paint in over 12 different colours to create the various scenes, both modern and traditional. The ReColour paint came from Community RePaint Wirral.

Lollard Street Adventure Playground gets ReColoured!

Lollard Street Adventure Playground was built on a derelict bomb site after WWII. The purpose of the space is to support and enrich children’s self-directed play. The playground includes large wooden play structures, scrap materials, sports pitches, a nature garden and even a boat! Children are encouraged to play imaginatively, building resilience, creativity, inclusivity and a sense of fun and adventure.

Over the Covid-19 lockdown, there was a long break due to the restrictions, which meant that the playground was in need of a rejuvenation.

With the help of Community RePaint – Cambridgeshire, and ReColour paint, Lollard Street Adventure Playground got a serious splash of colour!

As a child-centred playground, it seemed fitting that local children were part of the redecoration. “The children got very involved with the painting, which can be seen by all of the splats and slightly chaotic designs!”

Marcus was incredibly helpful in getting us the right paint and the right colours and we were very happy with the range of colours that arrived and their affordable price. Hope Church Kensington, Liverpool raving about ReColour paint

Hope Church Kensington is a vital hub with different groups using the space throughout the week. This includes regular Sunday services, toddler groups and a Community Fridge: a community food shop offering food to all in the area to help with the cost-of-living crisis.

For their redecoration project, the church used a professional decorator to prepare the room, cutting in some of the difficult sections and giving them a slight head start before a team of eight from the church congregation took over to finish the space.

Both the professional decorator and the Hope Church Kensington team were impressed with the ReColour paint. Pastor George Osborn says:

“the paint was great, arrived quickly, very cost effective and was a real boost to what we were doing, been raving about it since!”

Cheltenham Paint Festival returns to Community RePaint for the fourth year

Cheltenham Paint Festival

The Cheltenham Paint Festival is a free art trail, showcasing a wide range of high-quality artwork in various painting styles from national and international artists. This year, 170 artists took part and painted 30 different locations around Cheltenham. The festival provided a colourful 5-mile walk for locals and visitors. This year in Gloucestershire Lifestyle Awards it was awarded ‘Event of the Year.’

The festival never fails to add a huge splash of colour to the town. There was a huge variety of styles unique to each artist. Mural artist Katie Scott’s depiction of a undressed Barbie particularly sparked debate amongst the local residents.  The murals will remain until next year’s festival.

Cheltenham Paint Festival

Artist and founder of the festival, Andy Davies, contacted Community RePaint to purchase 100 litres of affordable white paint to use at the festival. The central team passed the festival’s request onto Community RePaint Wirral, who was able to deliver ReColour remanufactured paint, costing just £1.20 per litre, meaning it could still go ahead on a reduced budget. The festival is crowd-funded, and entrance is free. This year the paint went even further because the Cheltenham Paint Festival team used a spray gun to apply the paint.

Back in 2021, Feeding Families purchased 120 litres of ReColour emulsion paint to decorate their then-new premises (click here to read about their past project). Fast forward to April 2023 when the Feeding Families team got in touch again, as due to growing demand, the charity had secured new, larger premises which needed decorating, prior to moving in during May 2023.

Trades4Care CIC supports young people in need of work experience within the construction sector, with skills and mentoring opportunities, while providing community hubs, education buildings and care facilities with an affordable decorating service – on this occasion working to redecorate the Methodist Church hall in Barnard Castle.

This church hall is a vital hub within the local town with lots of different activities taking place in the hall throughout each week. This includes a foodbank, Parkinson’s exercise classes, charity coffee mornings, a warm space, a polling station, as well as puppy and dog training.

With a team of young adults, keen to develop their decorating skills, Trades4Care jumped to action to redecorate this community space, repairing the ceiling and woodchip walling and repainting the interior of the hall – which had not seen a lick of paint in 25 years!

For the project, Trades4Care purchased 200 litres of emulsion paint from the ReColour range of remanufactured paint, with paint and delivery totalling £345 – a massive saving in comparison with the £700 they had been quoted for if they had bought from trade. The order was processed by our remanufacture centre run by Community RePaint Wirral. Once processed and packaged, the paint order was delivered directly to the door of the Methodist Church.
